Chris Wink, Matt Goldman, and Phil Stanton became the Blue Man Group in 1987. The first permanent production opened at Astor Place in New York City, and later expanded to Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Orlando, Berlin, Zurich, and Tokyo.

What to Expect

At the heart of everything the Blue Man Group does is a punk-rock vibe, passion for performance innovation, and love of experimentation. The atmosphere is casual, relaxed, and fun. Like the Blue Man, employees of the company are nurtured to be curious, creative, and collaborative. Freedom of expression is encouraged. Though the cast and staff are spread out across three continents, the Blue Man Group family is tight-knit and the company regularly offers employees the opportunity to visit other productions to learn new techniques, trade tips and tricks, and create relationships.

The company headquarters is located in New York City and houses the artistic direction teams, human resources, marketing, production directors, and finance departments. Each theatrical venue has a permanent cast and crew (usually fewer than 50 people) and an in-house marketing, HR, and house staff.

When the BMG team considers candidates, personality is an important component. At each show the entire staff has input in the hiring process. If you make it to the short list of applicants to BMG, you will be invited to spend a shift shadowing the position you are applying for. The department supervisor will give you a behind-the-scenes tour, introduce you to the cast and crew, and allow you to observe both pre-show operations and the performance. This allows you to determine for sure if BMG is the right place for you, and gives the staff a chance to get to know you and your personality beyond a résumé. Be outgoing and friendly, and ask questions. If you’ve made it this far, you’ve already proven you have the skills and experience; now you need to convince the Blue Man that you will be fun to work with.
