What to Expect

For more than three decades, Chicago Recording Company has been a creative haven for musicians of all popular genres. The extensive list of artists to have recorded at CRC includes Michael Jackson, Timbaland, Rihanna, Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears, and Snoop Dogg. Equally notable are the numerous film and television productions that the studio’s engineers have contributed to, including Watchmen, Toy Story, The Dark Knight, Boardwalk Empire, CSI: NY, and Black Swan. CRC’s American Mobile Studio has become a regular at festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Lollapalooza. The recording studio on wheels offers clients the ability to capture high-quality live recordings at concerts, festivals, broadcasts, and other events.

The Chicago Recording Company facilities are comprised of 14 studios, including a DVD authoring suite and nine post-production suites. Studios 4 and 5 are the largest, containing three live stages, a client lounge, and two sound booths. Studio 4 is equipped with a Neve VR-72 console and Steinway grand piano. Studio 5 features an SSL 6064e console and a Bosendörfer 92-key grand piano. Throughout the facility, CRC is equipped with Pro Tools HD systems and capable of 5.1 surround sound mixing. Beyond live recordings, mixing, and mastering for studio albums, film, and television, CRC also offers sound design services, music licensing, automatic dialogue replacement, and Foley.

At any given time, CRC employs less than 50 people. The staff is made up of senior engineers that specialize in music or post-production, supported by a crew of assistant engineers. Staff producers coordinate the behind-the-scenes logistics with clients. Unpaid internships are available at Chicago Recording Company and are very competitive. Programs consist of three months of full-time work, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. In exchange for stocking supplies, running errands, and a bit of housekeeping, interns are given the opportunity to observe recording sessions, participate in Foley creation, and gain exposure to the music industry. Of course, the core of the program is mentorship and training.  While interns will be asked to perform gopher duties, they will also have the fortunate chance to gain technical knowledge and learn creative techniques from masters of the trade. Interested candidates may apply directly through CRC’s website in the contact section.
