The music publishing arm of Warner Music Group traces its roots to the formation of Chappell & Company in 1811. Warner/Chappell holds the rights to compositions from Stephen Sondheim, Timbaland, the Gershwins and Eric Clapton, to name a few. The company also administers music and soundtracks for third-party enterprises like Lucasfilms, Ltd., Hallmark Entertainment, and Disney Music Publishing.

What to Expect

The international publishing house maintains 52 offices in 41 countries, including U.S. offices in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, and Miami. In 2007, Warner/Chappell acquired the production music entity Non-Stop Music, which provides library and custom music for film, radio, and television. The parent Warner Music Group employs more than 3,000 people worldwide. Positions within Warner/Chappell include jobs in artist relations, marketing, promotions, digital media, business development, and brand licensing.

Internships are available and serve as the official pipeline to entry-level positions in production, marketing, and A&R. The positions are unpaid and based on college credit. Those selected to participate benefit from exposure to music industry professionals, mentorship, and a firsthand look at the inner workings of music publishing. All interns are invited to participate in regular professional development and networking events and are protected under the company’s Intern Bill of Rights, ensuring that both the student and employer get the most out of the experience.

The office culture varies from one location to another, but most have a business-casual atmosphere, amenities like a foosball table and televisions in the break room, and a fully stocked music lending library. A bachelor’s degree in your career area is typically required of every applicant, as is industry experience for mid-level jobs.
